The ritual
sanctioning alliance by marriage, in Rumania, can be described and interpreted
when starting from two interrogations : first, what is the place of the
religious office in the whole programme ? Second, how do the social
actors distinguish in their common practice and representations the various
offices held out of the church from the religious one ? These various
offices are what I call the "speech office", "mouth office" and "game office",
meaning here by game the dance, joc, the music sustaining it and the song
that gives it a meaning. This leads to a subsidiary question : what is the
place that these very social actors give to these three offices in their
programmes and, since this place varies, what laws can be deduced from these
variations, what tendencies do they reveal, what meaning do the social actors
give to the ritual evolution ?
