Europa's
rape.
|
|
A continent
and peoples called after the name of a nymph, Europa. A myth that reports
how a god of thunder and clouds, Zeus, disguised as a bull, raped this young
virgin of a legendary Phoenician royal family. An island, Crete, at the
junction of unnamed worlds, situated in the south and in the north, in the
east and in the west. This island is the place of a rape, of alliances and
births of kings ruling over all seas. Contrasted peoples and languages,
religious practices and strong beliefs, knowledge and powers, thoughts and
values are constantly confronted to each other. Such is, briefly, the mental
universe in which the myth of Europa raped by Zeus takes shape in undetermined
times in the second millenary B.C..
