At the
foot of the Arethuse source the small beach at the far end of the
cove is protected by the islet of Pigadi. |

"If
there is a result that can be evidenced by the southern voyage, it
is that the four harbours and possible anchorage places of the homeric
Ithaka correspond exactly with those of the modern Ithaka".

I must add that any ship movement evoked by Homer could be reproduced
by Tzarambo and her crew and its nautical pertinence verified. And
for the general understanding of the Odyssey in the light of Odysseus'
navigations I note that the poet treats in a quite different way the
simple anchorage places and the genuine harbours. Only the latter
benefit indeed from a complete description, as if the narration of
the episode concerning these harbours was intended to facilitate the
remembering of their typical features. |
