At the end of the periplus to Ithaka the places and routes recognized by our expedition correspond strikingly with the sites and routes described by Homer.

Odysseus by Eumenes

I must add that any ship movement evoked by Homer could be reproduced by Tzarambo and her crew and its nautical pertinence verified. And for the general understanding of the Odyssey in the light of Odysseus' navigations I note that the poet treats in a quite different way the simple anchorage places and the genuine harbours. Only the latter benefit indeed from a complete description, as if the narration of the episode concerning these harbours was intended to facilitate the remembering of their typical features.
